Old City, Tiberias
Historic Sephardic synagogue built by Rabbi Chaim Abulafia (1740), renewer of the Jewish settlement in Tiberias. Built on the remains of earlier synagogues, including one where the Arizal is said to have prayed; per tradition the Sanhedrin sat here in its final exile. Contains a unique mikveh connected to the Kinneret.
